Meet the 2016 teachers: Amira – Flamenco

News

Please let us introduce you to Amira Brock.

amira

Amira started her Flamenco training with Luis Ramon. He suggested that she teach his beginner classes and mentored her on the path of becoming a teacher.
Amira has been teaching Flamenco dance in Auckland for 20 years.

Her philosophy for teaching flamenco is based on a friendly and supportive atmosphere in classes and creating opportunities for students to gain performance experience if they wish.

Some of her own performing highlights have been with Jose Yelamo from Cadiz and she enjoys regular collaboration with Auckland flamenco guitarists.
Amira will be teaching Flamenco for us on Thursday evenings.

Meet the 2016 teachers: Diana – Ballet

News

Next up we would like to introduce you to the lovely Diana Kirk.

diana

Diana will be teaching our ballet classes on Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening.

Diana’s early training in the U.K. included classical ballet (BBO Advanced, ISTD Advanced), tap (BBO Advanced), modern theatre dance (ISTD Advanced), acrobatics and highland dance (UKAPTD). This was followed by formal teaching qualifications for classical ballet with both ISTD and IDTA and highland dance with UKAPTD. Diana gained the highest grade in all teaching exams.

During 15 years teaching dance, Diana taught both adults and children, entering candidates for ballet examinations with BBO and ISTD. She choreographed for the local Operatic Society and worked with teenagers at the local Youth Centre. During this period, she continued to attend classes, workshops and intensives in Edinburgh and London, mainly in classical ballet and the newly-emerging contemporary dance.

Since moving to New Zealand in 1987, Diana has been in non-dance-related employment, but dance has continued to be an important part of her life. She has consistently deepened her understanding of effective movement by taking classes in Skinner Releasing Technique with Raewyn Thorburn and Wilhemeena Monroe and in Alexander Technique, Classical Ballet and Floor Barre with Timothy Gordon.
